Getting started: 3 steps to setup Freshly
Welcome to Freshly! There are 3 simple steps to set up Freshly for your store. You can watch the video or read the instructions below to follow along.
Set up Freshly in 3 Simple Steps
- Assign batch tracking to product variants
- Manage how expiring batches get moved
- Fulfill orders using the First-expire, First-out (FEFO) and First-in, First-out (FIFO) method
Step 1. Assign batch tracking to product variants
First things first, let’s assign batch tracking to a product variant. To assign batch tracking to a product variant, go to the Inventory batches tab in the navigation menu, select the product variant and location you wish to add a batch to and click Add batch.
Batch tracking allows you to monitor a set of stock that belong to each product variant. With batch tracking you can:
- Track the expiration of each batch as well as the date you received the batch, SKU, and invoice number.
- Fulfill orders using the FEFO and FIFO method
- Trace defective items back to the batch that it belonged
📝 Note: Before you can add batches, inventory tracking needs to be enabled for the product variant in Shopify. Enable inventory tracking by selecting Track quantity in the Inventory section in your Shopify admin.
If you already have an existing inventory quantity for a product variant, you will need to add the quantity as the first batch along with an expiry date. In this way, all the subsequent batches you add will have expiry dates following the first batch, allowing you to fulfill orders using the FEFO method.
Step 2. Manage how expiring batches get moved
To manage how expiring batches get moved, go to the Preferences tab in the navigation menu, then go to the Batch expiry section. Here, you can manage actions that automate the movement of your batches before or when they reach their expiry date.
📝 Note: If you choose to remove a batch quantity from your inventory before a batch reaches its expiry date, the batch will be labelled as "expired" in your variant inventory history.
Step 3. Fulfill orders using the FEFO or FIFO method
Freshly allows you to fulfill orders using the First-expire, First-out (FEFO) or First-in, First-out (FIFO) method by auto-selecting products from the appropriate batch so that you can rotate stock by date.
If you'd like to override the auto-assignment, you can delete the auto-assigned batch and manually assign any active batch to the product ordered. Learn more about fulfilling orders using FEFO and FIFO or about manually selecting batches for your orders.
There’s more!
Once you’ve got these steps under control, there’s plenty more to explore in Freshly. Set up when you'd like to be notified when products are nearing their expiry, view recently expired batches, or learn how to use Freshly to reduce food waste.
